M.P. BIRLA HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH CENTRE
The M. P. Birla Group from Kolkata, already renowned for their HealthCare Institutions across the country including the Bellevue Hospital in Kolkata and the Satna Hospital, wanted to establish a health care institute in Chittorgarh, home to one of their largest cement plants, as a social initiative.
As part of the core philosophy of the group the hospital had to be fitted with the best infrastructure and equipment so as to make sure that the quality of care is of the highest standard and the building and its interiors in itself would stand the test of time.
The site was zoned so as to have the main hospital block on the front of the site. This was a 1,50,000 sq. ft. building housing the Labs, Radiology, Emergency, OPDs, OTs, ICUs, Day Care Procedures, Gynaec and NICUs along with wards and rooms housing 100 beds on the first three floors. To reduce further hindrance to the smooth functioning of the premises at a later date and to not loose out on the FAR, two spare floors that can house up to 200 more beds in the future were built in this block during this phase.
A 30,000 sq. ft. housing located towards the rear of the site was built to accommodate the doctors and nursing staff within the campus itself. This block can take an equal amount of vertical expansion adding another 30,000 sq. ft. of residential areas in the future.
The balance FAR can be achieved if required with an 8-storey superblock that can connect up with the main core and corridor of the hospital block, making it a 500 plus bed hospital.
To connect to the people of Rajasthan, the architecture of the building drew its inspiration from the traditional architectural language while simplifying it to exude the modern sensibility of the building.
